| Rater |
Or "observer" - a person who is providing 360 degree feedback - the manager, peer, staff, customer, etc of the participant. |
| Manager |
The person to whom the participant reports (may have more than one manager). |
| Peer |
Or "colleague" - a person who is an equal of the participant as an participant, with an equivalent level of accountability. Peers are usually at the same level of seniority and similar remuneration as the participant. They may not work closely together, but are reasonably familiar with each others' roles and performance requirements. |
| Staff |
Person who reports to the participant. |

| Capability: |
The highest level of aggregation in the CAB hierarchy, representing a whole category of performance - Eg. leadership. |
| Attribute: |
The elements of performance that, in aggregate, comprise the capability (ie. several attributes make up a capability) - Eg. communication (as one component of leadership) |
| Behaviour: |
The specific behaviours displayed by the participant and used by raters (observers) as means of assessing the attribute - Eg. "Keeps people fully informed" (the behaviour representing the Attribute of "communication" within the Capability of "leadership". |
